RadarStudio / Support
We're glad to help with anything about the app. RadarStudio shows what the radar networks and weather services publish, so if a radar is down for maintenance or a product is late, it's usually the source, and it comes back on its own.
Tell us your Mac, the macOS version, the radar or product you were looking at, and roughly when. A screenshot helps a lot. There's no need to send your EUMETSAT keys; we can help without them.
Public weather services. US radar comes from NOAA's NEXRAD and TDWR networks through NOAA's open data on Amazon Web Services, and warnings, discussions and forecasts come from the National Weather Service and its centres. Outside the US, RadarStudio reads the national services that publish their radar openly, including Canada, Germany, Italy and Japan.
None of it needs an account, with one exception: Meteosat satellite imagery over Europe and Africa, below.
Click My Location. The first time, macOS asks whether RadarStudio may use your location; allow it and the map centres on you. RadarStudio asks for one position at a time, only when you click, and it doesn't save it or send it anywhere.
If you said no and change your mind, turn it on in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → RadarStudio.
Choose Add Pin (⇧⌘P) and click the map, or Add Pin at Coordinates… to type a latitude and longitude. Pins keep their names, and you can rename, re-centre or delete them from the sidebar.
Inside the United States, each pin also shows the National Weather Service's forecast for that spot, refreshed about every half hour. Offshore or outside the US there's no NWS forecast, so the pin says so.
Click Go Live. It returns every pane to the newest data after you've paused a loop or stepped back in time.
Yes. Settings → Loop Frames sets how many scans a loop holds. Longer loops take a little longer to fill the first time you open a radar.
With Auto Radar on, RadarStudio follows the map: zoom in and it switches to the radar covering that area, zoom back out and it returns to the national composite. An AUTO badge shows while it's choosing for you. Turn it off to stay on the radar you picked.
Meteosat is operated by EUMETSAT, which asks for a free account. Register at user.eumetsat.int, confirm the email they send, then open api.eumetsat.int/api-key while signed in. It shows a Consumer Key and a Consumer Secret.
The first time you choose Meteosat in RadarStudio, it asks for those two values. They're stored in your Mac's Keychain and sent only to EUMETSAT. Forget Keys removes them, and you can regenerate them on the same EUMETSAT page if they're ever lost or rejected.
Yes. RadarStudio reads GRLevelX .pal palettes, so a color table you already use elsewhere works here too.
File → Export Video… saves the current loop as a movie, wherever you choose.
